Bare Project
I am drawn to the parts of people that are usually hidden, a theme that runs through much of my work. Bare explores human vulnerability and the stories behind it, focusing on the act of confronting and redefining what often lies beneath the surface. The project consists of portraits of strangers who volunteered to engage with and expose these vulnerable aspects of themselves.
Participants completed open ended statements designed to reveal something intimate or previously unexamined. One statement was then painted onto their face and bare upper body as they leaned into the emotions behind their words.
The work concluded in an exhibition where the portraits are seen collectively, revealing vulnerability as a nuanced blend of strength, fear, courage, and grace, and inviting viewers to reconsider it as a shared and connective human experience.
